Writer’s Wank : Non-Fiction

I’ve got writer’s wank or should that be blank. I just can’t do it anymore. No matter how much enthusiasm I try to muster I just can’t seem to get a word out. I have the same problem with meditation. Its because I stopped a couple of years ago. I mean I have been doing some re-writing but it’s not the same as a fresh page.

I suppose writing is a bit like meditation so I shouldn’t be so hard on myself. Its best in these situations to start with baby steps. If I cant muster the first line of a great novel then write anything for mild curiosity, just to get the creativity juices flowing again.

These articles are a good example, at least it’s something, while the idea of what I want to write next takes shape in my mind. And it is. Although meditation doesn’t take shape in my mind or I suppose that does to. Maybe I can start with a few minutes and just sit. As always without expectation and allow it to come naturally. The stillness with the words are needed at the beginning.

It’s like the surface of a pond on a clear day, and then you throw a pebble into the pond and ripples start to move across the surface. Don’t throw a big stone in first as the waves will be too large. Just a small stone. A few words. The breath coming in and out. That first blank page. That first blank mind.

And then the story starts to flow like breathing. Listen intently to the peaks and troughs of the creative waters that flows through  you, and when you sense it ceasing, pause the pen, and let the mind settle.

  1. Sounds like you need to visit a retreat or something. I am trying to pay less attention to the news lately. It’s such a headache.
On a brighter note, we can’t CHANGE the world, but we can definitely INFLUENCE it.
